Organizaciones locales sin fines de lucro ofrecen seis becas a mujeres del condado de Tulare

A medida que el año escolar comienza a llegar a su fin, aquellos que buscan una educación superior definitivamente pueden necesitar alguna ayuda financiera. Este año, la Liga de Mujeres México Americanas del Condado de Tulare ha obtenido seis becas este año. 

 

La Liga de Mujeres México Americanas del Condado de Tulare (TCLMAW) es una organización sin fines de lucro que ha estado brindando apoyo a las mujeres mexicoamericanas que buscan una educación después de la escuela secundaria desde 1979. 

 

 L amisión de la Liga es promover el avance de las mujeres mexicoamericanas a través de desarrollo de liderazgo educativo, enriquecimiento cultural y participación cívica en todo el condado de Tulare. 

 

Su junta actual está formada por Elena Nava, presidenta, Katia Clark, vicepresidenta, Christina Osorio, secretaria, y Lillian Gurrola, tesorera, y Vanessa Mirabal, presidenta del comité de servicio comunitario. La Liga también ha demostrado interés en apoyar a la comunidad de Ivanhoe. Tanto Elena Nava como Vanessa Mirabal se unieron a la reunión mensual del Consejo de enero para presentar la organización a la comunidad de Ivanhoe. 

 

Hablamos con Vanessa Mirabal, miembro desde 2019, quien anima a todo aquel que quiera involucrarse a unirse a su organización. Como miembro actual, estuvo involucrada en la transición que hizo la organización hacia los eventos en línea para continuar sirviendo al condado de Tulare a través de la pandemia actual. 

 

Vanessa Mirabal declaró: “Nuestro enfoque principal es la educación y la entrega de becas al condado de Tulare. No solo estudiantes de último año de secundaria, sino estudiantes universitarios que regresan como una madre que regresa a la universidad o, ya sabes, un estudiante que tal vez se tomó un año o dos libres o alguien que comienza su próximo semestre, por lo que es cualquiera que esté asistiendo a la universidad o como una escuela de oficios “. Esta es una información alentadora, ya que no todos los estudiantes de educación superior saben que pueden calificar para becas, y la educación superior puede ser costosa, lo que coloca los títulos académicos fuera del alcance de muchos futuros estudiantes de comunidades de bajos ingresos.

 

Mientras que la Liga organizies diversas actividades, algunas de sus proyectos actuales incluyen:

 

  • Alojamiento talleres virtuales with WomxnWise a eomentar las mujeres a postularse para un cargo local.
  • Organizar reuniones semanales del club de lectura: este grupo se reúne todos los viernes a las 6 pm y está dirigido por la Dra. Lucía Vázquez.
  • Conexión de la comunidad con los funcionarios electos: Por ejemplo, la Liga organizó una discusión con el alcalde de Woodlake City,Rudy Mendoza. Esta conversación está disponible en YouTube.
  • Actividades culturales: La Liga organiza un evento anual del Día de los Muertos para el condado de Tulare. El año pasado, el evento fue virtual. 
  • Recaudación de fondos para las becas
  • Patrocinios financieros: Este año, la Liga patrocinó los premios Mujeres del Año del Condado de Tulare este año. 

 

Incluso en medio de las nuevas formas de conectarse con la comunidad, la organización ha mantenido una mentalidad abierta para encontrar nuevas formas de fortalecer su trabajo dentro del condado de Tulare.
