The Ivanhoe Sol Celebrates First Year of Publication

On behalf of the Ivanhoe Sol Editorial Team, we would like to thank our readers for the support during our first year of publication!

 

Over the last year we could not predict the many of the historical news events that occured, we tried to record some of the most important events to share with Ivanhoe. These topics varied from climate change, school graduation, and community events and we are excited for what this year brings.

 

The Ivanhoe Sol’s editorial team has also grown and become more experienced. Many of us are volunteers and not “professional” in the traditional sense while others are professionals but have not had as much experience working directly with local communities. This has created various opportunities to grow and build our own skills to better serve Ivanhoe.

 

Our publication has also developed expertise that has supported other small news projects throughout the United States who are trying to meet their own community’s information needs. To be part of a larger movement for better, factual, and relevant news during this age of misinformation and fake news has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of our work. It tells us that there is a demand for local news and that there are others who take this work seriously.

 

Over the last year, one thing has been made exceptionally clear to us: Although Ivanhoe is a small and rural community, many of the primary issues we see as a nation manifest themselves locally. Issues like immigration reform, Black Lives Matter, or environmental pollution continue to be felt by the residents of Ivanhoe. By following the news of Ivanhoe, we have been able to record how these larger issues can also be uniquely local to Ivanhoe as well. 

 

We can proudly say that no other news project in the San Joaquin Valley has been able to follow one community as closely as the Ivanhoe Sol.

 

Moving forward, we look forward to increasing our credibility and connection with the Ivanhoe community and beyond. We believe communities like Ivanhoe have been ignored for too long and deserve a platform for their voices to be heard.

 

It is hard to say what kind of stories will appear to us but we encourage all of our readers to continue to share their thoughts and suggestions with us. This will help us know how we are doing but also help identify new information needs to address in our work. 

 

Thank you for your support. We will give 2021 our best efforts and continue to improve.
